Thailand Police M1 Carbine , Made by Howa.

These are very interesting little rifles . Very high quality near clones of the USGI M1 Carbine made by Howa of Japan . Rear sights and bayo lugs are of different design than the USGI guns.

Addy , not a hot link. This is not an endorsement of the auction & I have no connection to the seller or G/B .
The seller states " Reportedly.... only .... between 800 and 4,000 surviving with the rest destroyed. " Not trying to rain on anybody's parade , but , the best available research does not support those numbers at all.
I'll post a link with historical info later.

Pretty neat variation of the M-1 carbine.

Howa is a very large manufacturing company that specialized in tooling and machinery. The factory was originally established in 1907 to supplement production of arms and armaments for the Japanese Empire. The heads and engineers were most likely western educated and studied manufacturing practices prior to the war. Wouldn't be surprised if the US supplied the parts and machinery to start M1 carbine production. Howa also made Garands, IIRC

More info concerning the Howa -made Thai Police M1 Carbines and how they reached North America . Also some ugly incidents of 1990's Clintonista harassment of importers and lawless mutilation of historic artifacts.

Lots of pictures and detailed info . A batch ( dozens ) of these little rifles appeared at Knob Creek a couple years ago.

Imports are an RKBA issue , as well as as historically significant .
