    mosin project gun..

i plan on putting a sniper rifle together using a mosin 91/30.

    i plan on using a ati monte carlo stock,harris bi-pod i have already,buy a decent scope.

but the dilemma i have is with the bolt and scope mounts,i do not really care for the look of the cut off and remount bolts so i am looking at buying a turned bolt, but how would i head space it?? never done head-spacing before and do not know anything about it.scope mounts i have 2 options -replace the tangent sight with a mount or install the drill&tap kit.

the reason i want a mosin for this is ammo is very cheap&plentiful, has good range, tons of parts available.plus i like the mosin it self.....

    any input folks???????????

With the Mosin-Nagant, you can keep your current bolt head and just replace the bolt body and your rifle will keep the same headspace measurement that is has now.

I am a mosin purist. So if you want to do what you seem to be determined to do, PM me and I can give you links to buy all the mods you are talking about (the GOOD ones). WITHOUT permanantly altering your mosin. (If you keep all your original parts, you can always put it back to original configuration)

            k...purist here.

well if you are going to modify you mosin, i would suggest that you take the bolt sleeve and either get it bent or get the kit to cut, drill and tap to bend the handle. so you would not have to do any thing to the bolt head or the carrier or any thing else but the bolt sleeve.

you cant stop some one from moding a mosin, so you might as well give them some helpful 2 cents

If you know a place you can get a replacement bolt let me know, the firing pin in my m44 is broke. Let me know how this goes, I would like to convert mine as well.

These kinds of problems are why I keep a spare firing pin and extractor for every weapon type I have (and some that I don't have anymore lol!) in my range box

Dude, you will be money ahead if you just buy a nice used Savage to mount your scope on. By the time you're done with your Mosin "sniper" you could have a way better gun for less scratch.
Oh but I want to do it my way. It's just a commie gun, they made millions of them.
                      Sigh.
For a bent bolt, send your bolt body off to The Boltman.

You might find it more expedient to simply replace the firing pin, rather than the full bolt.

point is i want to customize a mosin, not a savage which i already have (340a model).

bolt body change sounds the best when it comes to the bolt.

now about that scope mount, any ideas???????

and i know better than to destroy a rare gun,i plan on getting one from either-century,aim,jg sales,or big 5----

Just drill a bunch of holes in the receiver until you get two to line up. Then you'll just need some JB Weld and you should be good to go.

                            sounds like a plan!

Why not just buy a previously abused bubba? Convert that for your project. It would probably be cheaper too.

Is it just me, or does every tacticool mosin have some form of the ATI stock?
