Just wondering if it is worth $700 or more. It might be to a collector I guess. I couldn't bring myself to pony up.
K31, private issue made in the late 50s, 99% condition, one of about 400 made that year, basically unused condition.
Hammerli barrel. Private import so no importers stamp. Naturally, all the numbers match. It looks like an old Swiss gent put it in his closet in 1957 and left it there and it must have been part of his estate. The serial# stamp looks like it is original in that the "P" is the same size and type as the numbers.
I've seen some where the numbers all look the same and the "P" looks different, like it was added later.
The barrel gauges zero so no wear at all. The only defect I could see was a few tiny dings in the walnut stock, maybe 3 dings. That's it.
I agonized over this and passed. Then I agonized some more. I was not the only K31 enthusiast who passed based upon the asking price. I have seen an internet site from Europe where K31s in similar condition (but not rare serial#s) had buy it now prices of 498 euros or almost $700.
