      From wiki:

"This improvement was at the cost of the slide hold-back feature that was "eliminated in the new design and which has made Baby Browning pistols not federally classified as Curio & Relics illegal for commercial sale in the state of California as of late 2006:"

      What does that mean...?

The way I'm reading it is that if the Baby Browning you want is not federally classified as a C&R it's not legal for sale here.

What I took was that some are and some aren't.

          from ATF

Browning, model 1906 Pocket Pistol if more than 50 years old.

I assume it is good to go if it is 50+.

          Anyone?

All firearms 50+ years old are automatically C&R, both Federally and within CA. They do not have to be listed in the Federal C&R List.

If a firearm is not older than 50 years, the only way it can be a C&R is if it is listed on the Federal C&R roster.

            Hope that helps.

That statement is a little misleading, but basically it is saying that other than C&R eligible Baby Brownings, the Baby Browning cannot be sold commercially in CA because it is not on the "Safe Handgun" roster. Of which, C&R's are exempt.

What is misleading, is the quote mentions a "Slide Hold-Back Feature" being eliminated as the reason why the non C&R versions cannot be commercially sold in CA. (i.e. They cannot be added to the Safe Handgun Roster)

As of 2007 the Safe handgun requirements for a center fire pistol in CA increased to include an magazine disconnect AND a chamber load indicator. The Baby Browning has a loaded chamber indicator, but not a magazine disconnect. So if it wasn't already on the roster prior to 2007, in couldn't be added to the roster for commercial sale. But nowhere have I ever seen a "Slide Hold-Back Feature" as being a CA safe handgun requirement.

dstone20, that's incorrect. Every Baby Browning actually made by Browning has a magazine disconnect. It's a huge pain in the *** to reinstall once you have the firearm detail stripped. I have several Baby Brownings and they all have this. I'm not sure about the Bauer copies from the 80s, but the original Brownings all have mag disconnects. They also do not have an LCI. What are you talking about thinking that it has an LCI?

Anyways, to the OP, all Baby Brownings made before 1960 should be good to go and roster exempt as they are 50 years old. These are very high quality .25 Autos and I love them. Very accurate.

                  Cool.

                  Thanks.

How do I know when they were made? Are they dated? features?

                  Thanks

Here's a serial number/date chart on the Browning web site...

I wasn't aware of the magazine disconnect. Thanks for the correction. Regarding the LCI, you are again correct. It's not an LCI, rather it is a cocking (cocked?) indicator. The pin on the back that sticks out when handgun is cocked.
