    Dumb Question

I would wondering if it is legal to cut a WWII Mosin barrel to like 8-10" (with shoulder stock cut off and only the grip stay) to make it a handgun/single shot pistol like the TC. Is there any state and federal regulation about C&R rifle conversion?

Minimum length for a rifle barrel is 16" unless you apply for a SBR (short Barreled rifle) stamp . . . . sure is a cool idea, though, huh!!

I wonder if the SBR apply to C&R rifles. Anyway, it would be a nice camping piece we can bring. How does a red dot sound?

There have been worse ideas, but they all caused disfigurement or death.

I would think so. A c&r no longer qualifies as c&r the minute you modify it.

I have an m44 that came battered and can't shoot worth a darn. I have done a trigger job, reworked bolt, bedding stock and free floated the barrel and accuracy improved.

Since the stock it cam with was extensive damaged I modified it, too. It also has a 17 1/4" barrel to stay legal and a shortened stock to be very comfortable and shoots much tighter groups.

But I cannot sell this as c&r cash and carry. . . it must go through a dealer and be dros'ed.

. . . and I hear that c&r licensees who do this regularly will also no longer qualify for their collectors' license . . .

someone also said even if you only replace the stock with an ATI type, it is enough to no longer be c&r . . .

Please correct me if I'm wrong . . . anyone?

            You are correct.

            Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

Yes, SBR laws do apply to C&R rifles. They apply to "antique" Mosin-Nagants as well.

I would suggest just buying a savage striker or something similar. Its going to shoot way better and save you some jail time
