Any calgunner order a rusty kimber from CMP?

Based on what I've read on thecmp.org, these rusty kimbers appear to be a very good deal.

Have any of you purchased one sight unseen and had it shipped to you? How much rust was on your rusty kimber?

I've been wanting to, suppose to be a great value. Most people on the CMP forum report some orange residue on the bolt that wipes off easily. Been wanting to get into rimfire target shooting, don't think there's a cheaper way to get started.

I have see pictures of rusty kimbers and other than a little rust on the barrel and heavy cosmoline on the bolt. All accounts report that the rust is minimal or no existent. However, I have seen pictures of 82's were stocks have scratches along the stock from when the armorer used a razor to open the sealed bags which held the 82's.

Rusty kimbers are one of the best deals from the CMP. If I didn't already have a Mossberg M44US incoming I would jump all over a 82.

Yes...I got one back in May and it is a great deal. Only issue was having to clean the bolt and a very, very light scratch on the stock. I don't recall seeing any rust on the rifle before cleaning it. Definitely get one if you're in the market for a heavy weight .22 target rifle.

Are you guys talking about the $400.00 Kimbers vs. the $600.00 that probably don't have any rust? Seems for the $200.00 difference there are probably some of them that belong in the scrap heap. Wouldn't want to pay $400.00 for a rust bucket.

I saw one at the range a few months back. It was shooting 0.25-0.50 inch groups at 50 yards. The old guy that bought it from CMP was thrilled with the rifle and insisted on telling me all about it.....and I enjoyed listening

It was in pretty good shape, I didnt notice any rust on it. I seem to remember a $500 out the door price he paid for it so it might have been the cheaper grade. But then again they might have changed their prices.

I got in when CMP 1st offered them as used Kimbers. It was $150 for everything but the sites. They sold them to me a month later for ~$95. It's the most accurate rifle I have at the moment!
