    OH The Humanity!!!

Back on Jan 1, 2007 I tried to get in on the 1903A3 barreled actions.. as of last week .. no go I switched my order to a Garand Grade B receiver sonce they were out of the Grade A's... CMP is shipping my receiver today.. I WAS hoping for a 3mil ( I asked for one when they called me 2 days ago).. but guess what..... I have yet another 2 mil coming.. I have 2 mil Garands literally coming out of my ears( this will be my 4th one I have in hand, I sold off 3 of them last year to buy OLL's) I wanted to get a 3mil so as to have 2 of each digit series.. I only have 1 3mil right now... I was going to build up my new receiver, if it was a 3mil, as a full tilt JCG Garand match rifle (GI contour Kreiger barrel and all new in wrap GI parts) I guess I'll have to contact some of my Garand buddies and see if they have any 3mils they would swap for a 2mil receiver.........

        Heh. I got a 3 mil receiver.

        Unfortunately, I ain't trading it.

But I seriously know how you feel. I requested a 5 mil reparked awhile back and ended up getting a 2mil. I've got more than enough 2mils.

I did end up getting that 5mil I wanted for a project gun by simply ordering a field grade (back when they still had them). That 5mil was stripped down and all the parts are sitting in boxes. I have no idea when I'll get to building a competition .308 SR out of it.

I just recieved a CMP B grade receiver, it has some pitting at the woodline and very worn finish overall. No rust fortunately. I am having Dean's refinish it and barrel it up with a used NM SA Inc .30 barrel. I'm putting it together as a shooter with parts that I had laying about but it will still cost close to $500 once it is all said and done. This project turned out to be a lot more expensive than I thought it would be!

Is there any difference in a 2mil, 3mil 4mil, or a 5mil? Or is it just personal preference?

Well, if you assume production standards have improved overtime, then the later serials theoretically should be of better quality.

But for the most part, no, there is no difference.

The reason why we look for specific serials is out of collector's desire. Many people like to have one Garand from each of the 'millions' (ie: 6 digit, 1mil, 2mil, etc). Others want to have one Garand from each year of production.

How you collect Garands is as unique as you want to make it.

BTW: The 6mil receiver is highly desired and hard to come by. Somehow, I got a reparked 6mil receiver when I placd an order for a reparked receiver a couple years ago (I had requested a 5mil). I sold it to another collector because I had no real desire to try and rebuild the 6 mil just to have a 6 mil rifle. I'm not really a Garand collector. I just like to shoot them.

OK.. I missed the BWT this a.m. and went to FedEx tonight to pick up the receiver.. Even though I ordered a Grade B it looks like a Grade A to me. Original finish is a very nice greenish park with a lead dipped heel! I thought these were only found on the 1mils not all the way up to the 2 mils.. there is slight pitting above the wood line on the receiver ring but hardly noticeable... now another delema.. this receiver looks to nice to repark!.. so it looks like I'll have to order another one and hope it is a 3mil
