FN-49 Magazine....

Is the magazine on a FN-49 considered "detachable"? Would it be considered an "evil" class III AW feature? The reason I ask is that the magazine has no feed lips and cannot hold any cartridges. In fact once you remove it, the spring and follower can readily fly free of the assembly. Wheeee!!!!

The DOJ rules are that if the magazine requires a tool to detach, then it is not considered a detachable magazine. The FN49 pretty much requires something to get the lever to release the mag, at least mine does.

Per CA law the FN49 mag is not considered detachable, however I believe when the Federal AW ban was in effect it was considered so by ATF. Those days are of course gone for now.

detachable mag only matters if you have evil features..PG, FS or collasable or folding stock..

Rifles like the SAFN49(FN49),the Hakim, Rashid, SVT-40/38, AG42b, VZ52, Ruger Mini 14/40 and the M1a fall into this group..

They are all legal as long as you dont add a PG, FS or CS...

I don't think it is readily detachable, for sure I can't get mine off without a lever. Hakim is definitely detachable. I kinda wish somebody made a pistol grip folding stock for the FN-49 since it's a fixed 10rd mag already anyway. Would be just like a tac'd out SKS but in 8mm

Well mine had a threaded muzzle, and an HK91 flash hide fit perfectly. Shame to waste perfectly good threads. I just reamed it with a 3/8" reamer to make sure there was clearance for the 8mm bullets.
