    C&R Noob

Sorry if this is a dumb question.
So I recieved my C&R papers and understand I have to send some of it to my local CLEO. So do I just mail it to my local PD or do I have to address it to someone in specific?

CLEO is chief law enforcement officer, mail it to the chief of police or sheriff of whichever agency would show up at your house if you called 911.

Be careful. In San Diego county it's not who would show up at your door if you called 911. In San Diego all the cities have an agreement with the Sheriff that the Sheriff's Dept will handle all matters of firearms licensing. So it doesn't really matter who your local PD is, you would still have to send it to the Sheriff. You might want to check and see if your local area is the same way.

Remember, you don't send the CLEO copy of the application to the person or department in charge of firearms licensing. You send it to the Chief Law Enforcement Officer. If San Diego appointed a Deputy Chief In Charge of Accepting C&R FFL Applications and instructed you to mail a copy of your C&R license application to him because his only job was to read C&R license applications, you would still be required by Federal law to send the CLEO copy to the Chief of Police or Sheriff.

Don't be surprised if a clerk in the CLEO's office mails it back to you saying you're stupid for sending it to them and that they don't handle firearms licenses. If it happens, oh well, you did your part.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.
