I could probably be lured into a 100 yard military rifle match but 600-1,000 yards? I have nowhere to practice for such a match and I'd bet that would be problematic for most other shooters as well. I can get 200 yds at the local private range.

      Long Range Shooting

I would always be interested in Long Range Shooting in SVSC, it's a great place with great people!

Practice? You are missing the point, which is to go out and have fun, and shoot hell and gone farther than you ever have before. You probably won't win the match, but BFD. If you have fun, you still win.

The beauty is, you don't even have to keep score if you don't want to.

Rob, What is vintage? pre 1900? Irons, scope class, single shot, cast bullets ? 71/84 Mauser, Siamese mauser 1903-06, rolling block, 1888 commission rifle, swiss vetterli?

Distance? 500 meters would be pushing it with cast bullets.

            This ^ !

I'm just trying to provide a venue for C&R rifle owners to go out and shoot their ball ammo in their old rifle at longer distances, BS with the other C&R owners about what their rifle can and can't do, and just have FUN.

Dutchman, how often do you get the chance to shoot out to 800 yards with one of your Swedes to see what it will really do?

Sounds great, but a little complicated..... Lots of time I go out there on a Friday to shoot the 500 M silhouette and the guys are setting up for a Saturday at 9am on a Friday and they block us out for a whole day and with a lot of attitude.... Not too cool for those of us who only can get out there on Fridays..... If you want to do this by all means but just don't block a whole extra day for the rest of us so you can set up at your leisure.... Regards

Well, this event I'm trying to put together is going to be on the 1000 yard range, not the silhouette range. So it shouldn't have any effect on anyone shooting on the silhouette range.

As to what happened to you on the silhouette range...it sounds like it was the tactical rifle steel match guys setting out their steel the night before. It actually takes a while to get it all set up. AFAIK they have never taken "the whole day". They normally go out around 2 or so on Friday to set up. Also, they only do their steel match every other month (on the even numbered months), so it could have only been one Friday a month.

I would like you to do me a favor though. I know the person in charge of that group very well. If you will PM me your name and email address, and when this happened I will forward your complaint to him.

                  Frank,

Check the link at the top. It gives all the details.

Nothing says you have to to be able to shoot at all distances. Take it as far as you can and have fun doing it.

It's been a while but I have shot the Swede and 1903 Springfield at distances that defy current ocular ability. I use to camp in Little Cowhorn Valley in Inyo Nat'l Forest and had a nice setup for long range shooting. My preferred accuracy standard has always been minute-of-Campbell's-soup-can. That's what separates the men from the wussii.

                    I won't discount your appeal.

                      Count me in!

My sons and I would enjoy this as much as we enjoy the Mil-Sil match at Sac Valley
