    Carbine Magazines

I have two M1 carbine mags that my grandfather gave me years ago, along with some other assorted militaria from his time in the Merchant Marines during WWII. I never thought I would have a use for them, but it seems with my recent CMP order, I may have been wrong.

Legally, I can use these mags in my carbine since I have had then since about 1986, or am I wrong?

I have one 30 and one 15 round mag, only light surface rust on one of them.

To take care of that light surface rust.. use oil, like Rem Oil or even WD-40 and 0000 steel wool....

I just bought two from Natchez Shooter Supplies, from all the places I looked they seemed to be the cheapest. I have not used them yet but it looks like they should do the job. Here is the link:

USGI 30 round mags work well, aftermarket ones don't. Good luck with most of the 10 rounders too. They generally suck.

Thats what I was afraid of. Has anyone actually used any of the ten round mags they have purchased?

I got some from fulton as well.

The rounds don't want to slide out of the magazine. The casing is catching on the lips of the mag.

Sounds like a job for the cordless dremel with a grinder attachment to me.

i have a 10 rounder that i use in mine, and it gets some weird feeding issues, but does work most of the time.

i've had the round get stuck on the front of the feedlip a few times, and then once the bolt got stuck on top of the round, it missed the back of the cartridge and dug into the middle of the case and stopped the bolt.

On my one 15rnder ive never had any problems at all.

HPS, I have some mags like this. Once I remove the rust, what should I do to protect the bare metal? I'm not sure I'm qualified to parkerize or duracoat. Cold bluing? Paint them?

                    Thanks!

well... the BEST thing to do would be to parkerize them.. but either a VERRRY light rub down with Kroil should do for the while....

There are no 10/30 style Carbine mags like you can buy for an AR so if it looks like a 15 or 30 rounder in the pic then that's what it is.

I was about to say be careful when buying Carbine mags on eBay but if the seller doesn't know any better, it's actually not illegal for you to buy hi-caps. It's the burden of the seller/importer to be w/in the law.

                        ca penal code 12020(a)(2) reads:
"Commencing January 1, 2000, manufactures or causes to be manufactured, imports into the state, keeps for sale, or offers or exposes for sale, or who gives, or lends, any large-capacity magazine."

If you buy a mag from out of state, you're the person "importing" the mag. (Err, I read that again... were you joking? It kinda looks like it. Sorry if you were and I missed it.)

I've gotta find some ten-round mags... My Carbine's on its way back into my hands.

I recently lost 2 m1 carbine magazines. I am too lazy to go find them but could be persueded to provide a clue to their whereabouts

                            What does that mean?

FastSVT1998 deleted his original question so my response is out of context.

But my point was that if you bought a 10-round mag from eBay then you've done nothing wrong as 10-round mags are completely legal here in Cali.

So if someone sends me what I thought was a legal item and instead sends me an illegal one, how is it my fault? But based on what you're saying above I'd be on the hook since I'm the one importing a hi-cap? Doesn't make sense. The seller should be the importer since they're the ones causing the item to enter into the state. I'm not trying to be difficult - I actually don't know. Have to drag Gene or someone into this
