    Minty Remington 03-A3

made july of 1945 pretty much mint condition - all stamps etc are there. All parts stamped with the R for remington, looks to allintents and purposes unfired. What sort of value should I be prepared to pay for this? I have it held for me for a few days. I"m going to check gunbroker but does anyone have an opinion of fteh top of their head.

Are you sure on the date? M1903A3 production ended in February 1944.
    Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

In these parts, the asking price for an excellent plus condition, proper Remington 03A3 seems to be in the $650.-$850 range, with $700.-750. being the most commonly seen (by me) "asking" price at the gun shows. Hope this helps, Geologyjohn

Thanks I'm seeing a couple of alarm bells here. The date of 7/45 on the barrel and a serial Number (I just called the guy) of , quote "12 million 36 thousand and something" . I've got to do my research here as I don't want to get lumbered with a 'non proper' item with no resale value.

Is it possible that the barrel date is 7/43 instead of 7/45?

              Serial Number Range

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that for all 03 and 03-A3 Remingtons, the serial numbers fall between 3,000,000 and 5,784,000

Eighteenninelytwo, though the Remington Co ended 1903A3 rifle production in 1944, replacement barrels were made by others including Springfield Armory arsenal after that. Springfield definitely made replacement barrels (referred to by collectors as "Type 6 barrels") in 1944 AND 1945. However, I don't know what the last month was in 1945 that they were made. As to that 12 million serial number range that you mentioned, I can't think of any American military rifle, except perhaps that M-16/M-4 family, that has approached that serial number range. I think that the highest Remington 1903A3's number that I am aware of is in the 4.9 million range. Maybe the guy who told you 12 million can't count, and was actually looking at a 1.2 million number. Maybe the rifle in question is a cobbled together 1903 (which could have a 1.2 million number) with a 1945-dated Type 6 replacement barrel. Can you get some pictures? Geologyjohn
