    Mauser sights lack of utility

Is it me or are non k98 mauser sights almost impossible to use? Right now I have a vz24 and needless to say, the rear sight is almost useless. I was thinking of replacing it with a K98 rear sight (which seems to have a better V), but the sight bases are different. Another plan is to widen the rear sight with a file and turn that small v into a |_| shape or just simply drill and tap that sucker for a scope mount.

There is a company, maybe Micro Tec or something like that, who makes a no-gunsmithing swap out rear peep sight that replaces the stock rear sights. Try searching for that.

      Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

I took a file set and carefully cleaned up the "V", an error here will affect windage. Put a fluorescent dot (hardware store: marking liquid) on the front sight. It helps.

Mausers. Great rifles, but horrid sights.

They're almost perfect, but that one thing just ruins the whole deal for me. Kinda like this poor girl from an epic internet thread:

I have no problems with the sites on my Mausers. But, they could be better.

My side hood on my favorite K98 is crooked, any ideas on how to fix the bugger? I dont want to take it off because it looks purty, but I think its destroying my accuracy

You're right about the VZ24 sights being hard to use. Had to use a triangle shaped jewlers file on the rear sight, and put a taller M96 front sight (it also shot too high@100m). After that, it worked like a charm for my old eyes

So I'm assuming that the K98 has a better sights then the M48 and the VZ24?

Still enjoying my MOJO rear site on my VZ24.

                      YMMV

There are a few things you can do without permanently altering your rifle.

The Swedish Mausers are so much better in the sighting department due to the square post front and U notch rear sight. This you can do with your K98k (or other Mauser) by purchasing a square post blade from Brownell's for a few bucks. Then procure a spare rear sight elevator and U the notch with a needle file.

Something else you can do will require some judicious filing or a small milling machine. You'd make an insert for the rear sight and adapt a fiber optic rear sight like from a Thompson-Center Contender or something similar. Along with a new front blade adapted to the K98k dovetailed front base. The possibilities are really endless if you spend a few bucks and get some spare parts instead of ruining your original parts.

Airsoft fiber optic rear sights = cheap and very functional.

                              The Mojo, man.

Sure, I haven't gotten mine yet for the 91/30. BUT, I keep hearing good stuff about it, and since it's a peep sight---you should be able to adjust for windage/elevation.

When I get mine, I'll keep the mosin front post. I like it.
