    Scoping a K98?

Sooo I have a couple of K98's, and I want to put a scope on a K98, but I dont want to drill holes in any of the ones I have, so my plan is to buy a RC K98 and drill holes in that POS, any ideas on a type of scope or suggestions? P.s. I sense jealousy from some of you from my soon to be C&R freedom I'll have in Wa...

Are you wanting to make a Sniper repro, or just slap a scope on it?

http://www.accumounts.com/ has a great reputation for making good reproductions of the original German mounts.

If you just want to slap a scope on it, just go to Brownells and order some standard Weaver or Leupold style bases and rings. Mauser 98 is a standard size.

Just make sure its not a rare receiver code before you drill it. One RC with a very rare maker code went for over 20k on Gunbroker...

Any one use this accumount? http://www.accumounts.com/

"Aluminum German Mauser K98 no gunsmith, dual purpose mount. Fits either weaver or Picatinny rings, no drill/tap, no gunsmith, easy installation."

I want a scope on an IDF FN Mauser in .308 without D&T.

          emcon5, thanks for the link.

RC K98s do not automatically qualify as being "pieces of ****". Try a scout setup before anything else.

well thank you gents, I do believe I'll be getting a new Carbine before I scope up a K98 though, those things were a little pricey, btw which one dont I have to drill on?

Indeed. I have wondered before why Dr. Mauser calls himself that.

in my defense I've seen some terribly disgusting RC's on GB, thats why I said that, some of them actually look like they've been through wood chippers and under the electropencil of a 5 yr old

Appearances can be deceiving. Some of the ugly rifles are some of the smoothest, most accurate ones out there. They have been used hard, but that doesn't neccesairily make them a POS.

My experience is RC are usually really good shooters. All of mine are excellent.
For the OP, it cost me just over $800 to build a Repro LSR sniper. The only thing repro used was the mount (accumounts) and it is a blast to shoot. So fun in fact I am now working on a Repro HT sniper and a Repro ZF4.

I added a scout scope setup to mine, which is totally reversible. I forget which mount I used, but I think it was an S&K. Luckily, the scope is far enough forward that I can still use stripper clips to reload.
