    garand extracting problem

hey guys need some help. I'm new to garands so any opinions are appreciated

I bought the gun from a fellow cg'er, brought it home, cleaned it and took it out. I dont know to much about the gun but everything seemed ok when i took it apart.

I went thru the first embloc with no problems. After that i dont what happened. I would shoot a couple of rounds and it would fail to extract the case, leaving the casing inside the chamber. I'm using greek hxp m2 ball ammo. Would that be the problem? I haven't tried any other ammo.

Need to know more about the state of the rifle when it fails to extract. Does it leave the case stuck in the chamber? Or, is it still under the extractor claw, but not stuck in the chamber?

It might be short cycling -- not opening the bolt far enough to kick out the case, and just shuvin' the case back into the chamber.

It might be the ammo. Yugo surplus doesn't say much. It likes M2 Ball. Most people are shooting Greek HXP M2 Ball from the CMP. Greece had Garands on loan for years; and made their own ammo. Try different ammo first.

Dirty chamber? Clean it with a chamber brush. Bent OP rod? Gas piston/cylinder corroded or worn.

Yugo surplus 3006 ammo??? It maybe a stupid question are you sure it is 3006 and not 8mm,7.62x39 or7.62x54 ammo that you are trying to feed it.

Make sure it is properly lubed. A Garand runs on grease, not oil. If it slides, grease it, if it rotates, oil it. I use automotive wheel bearing grease with moly, but any good grease will do. Lubriplate was made for it.
Measure the gas piston, it should not be less than .525". The gas cylinder should not be bigger than .532", a belted magnum rifle case makes a good poor man's measuring tool for this.
Make sure the gas cylinder lock screw is snug. From your description of firing one en bloc without problem, then starting to have problems, I would start there. They often work loose.
Then find some proper ammo, and test fire it, and see what happens. If you can't find any, and have a buddy who reloads, a proper load would be about 49 grains of IMR4895 and a 150 gr bullet. USGI load is 50 gr of IMR4895.

the casing seems to get stuck inside the chamber. I'll take everything apart to clean and lube again

Surprisingly, there is such a thing as Yugo .30-06 M2 ball ammo http://www.100megsfree4.com/airground/ammo/yugoslav.htm

I suspect the OP's problem is a dirty chamber.
                Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

if you are mechanically inclined even a bit, you can check your extractor spring and give the whole bolt a good once-over/cleaning. i have done it using this website-http://www.surplusrifle.com/garand/b...mble/index.asp
