    Mosin Go, No-Go

What's the best way to test head space on a Mosin? I thought go, no-gos were best but J&G (Granite Bay) just told me, they are rarely out and you can do it with live ammo (I'm assuming he doesn't mean "if it blows up it was out"). I have two m44s to test and he wants $25 a piece. I figure i'd be better off buying the gauges if I can't find a cheaper way as all he said he would do is do his 'other' check and test fire.

all you really need is the "field" gauge. if the bolt closes on that don't fire it. if it doesn't close then it's good to go.

        See http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting...pace/index.asp

It also has links to some gauge suppliers.
        Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

I'd go with okiegauges.com, they have the coin-style gauges that don't require you to remove the extractor and the set of all three gauges is $50, with free shipping. I had a great experience buying from them.

Add about .010 " of shims to an empty case -- If the bolt closes have it checked with actual gages.
