Let's talk about stripper clips (and interrupters)

I saw on the other thread, the persistence subject of clips. Technically, it was getting off topic, so I figured I can start this thread.

Let me get some things straight.

1. The Mauser clip is the only you strip off and get rid of manually?

2. SMLEs, Arisakas, Mosins, Steyr M95s, etc. All have a place to insert a clip; said clip is ejected automatically when empty?








Also, since I keep seeing conflicted ideas about Mosin rimlock, and not just on Calguns...

What do I need to look for, to make sure that my interrupter is properly working? And if I needed to, could it be an easy DIY fix?

Mauser eject the clip when the bolt is pushed forward. I believe SMLE's are this way too.

Garands eject the clip when the magazine is empty. Steyr M95s do this too, but they eject the clip out of the bottom.

SKS's Must have their clip removed manually.


There is a debate whether or not Mosins will do it. Mine does after the final round has been inserted.

As far as rimlock. You'll notice that you can't chamber a round. You'll know when your rifle is doing it.

use the brass shims, it will help with rimlock

and in the case of many rifles, when you load the last round, you just throw the bolt forward and the stripper clip will be ejected.

Some have stated that if you apply enough pressure when you load the rounds, the clip will come off automatically. I haven't tried this yet, I'm looking for some stripper clips and waiting for the ammo to arrive

If I'm under fire by German forces, I wouldn't test this...

best stress test, reload a mosin while being pelted with oranges. Lets see if is reliable enough.

You can't tell from a visual check if the interruptor is working. Only upon loading the magazine and trying to cycle the rounds, will you discover if it's good or not. But it's a simple and cheap part to replace, so not one to really worry about before a purchase.

i tend to shoot people who throw oranges at me. in all seriousness though, whilst you're trying to knock the stripper clip out of the mosin with the bolt rather than just pulling it out, somebody with an sks could shoot you 10 times and then reload. not good. i've tried a few different mosin clips although i haven't got the brass ones yet, but they all kinda half-*** work and sometimes don't. i try not to cut the hell out of my hands when using stripper clips which may be why i don't have a lot of success with them, but i cut my hands up enough at work so i don't make a point of doing it when i'm going to have to clean guns with solvent later. maybe i am just a crazy a-hole.

Surplus: The Izhevsk (triangle w/ arrow) ones are the best. The blued "31" marked Chinese ones are great as well. I have both of these types and neither requires you to do any lifting of the top round nonsense. Just push down with thumb and they slide home. No slicing up your fingers either. As I view these as a somewhat precious commodity, I've never tried slamming the bolt home to pop them out. Don't want to damage them.

Modern Repros: Some have bought brass ones from a guy going by uglycarfan on Ebay/various milsurp forums and reported good success.

The bolt going forward will not pop them out. The slot and the clips are not designed for that. You can tell easily just by gently pushing the bolt against the clip.
