    All Things Mauser

    Hi,
So I need to learn about all the different models of Mausers so I can make an educated decision when I buy one finally. I tried to find a good forum but I couldn't. Could someone please point me in the right direction? I'm looking for a real shooter.
    Thanks

Take a look here. Keep in mind that this is a "collectors" board. Don't bring up any ideas of changing anything permanently while you're there.

This discussion forum focus's on the famed K98k rifle of the German Wehrmacht and it variations and derivatives. Certainly one of the most popularly collected rifles around. This forum discusses the rifle and provides experts and collectors alike a place to share research and information. This...

A few more ideas for you. Good luck....

Get this book if you really want to learn about all the different models of Mausers

There were hundreds of Mauser models used by dozens of countries.

If you want a real shooter, the best deal is Yugoslavian 24/47s on sale at Big 5 for $199 through July 5 http://big5sportinggoods.shoplocal.c...ailerid=-98565
          Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

Thanks again. I really like the swedish mauser but the ammo is quite expensive. My first mauser this weekend will be the Yugo. It was out a couple weeks ago then they were out. I don't want to miss my chance again and for 200 it's quite a steal. I'm just hoping to get a coupon soon.

While I am into collecting, shooting is my main concern so I just want a little background info before I randomly go out buying.

Anyone interested in Mauser military rifles of the world but not interested in the $30's it's on google books. I've never used it before but am amazed this is in there.

These are all good places to start Thanks for the help.

Its a nice site. Do you have any experience with any of the smiths that are recommended there?

I have a couple ABB 98 actions (already been bubba'd) I need to have properly sporterized/trued by someone who knows what they are doing. I can't afford to just mail them to one the Guild guys and say "do it", though for one of them (1909 Arg.) I'd like to end up with a rifle that would approach some of their stuff.

Btw if you are going to shoot Mausers - or any C&R gun for that matter, learn to reload. Otherwise, you just won't fully benefit from the low cost of a good shooter.

Scott, there's a couple of smiths on there that do some pretty fine work. Mike McCabe (z1r), Don Markey, and Mike Whiskey are just three off the top of my head. All have done their fair share of cleaning up Bubba's messes. Click on their profiles and look through each ones posts for pics of the work they do, and have a drool rag handy.

Whatever you choose, you are going to have fun. I found a Czech Mauser k98 with a mirror bright bore, no visible pitting, and it is a real shooter!

Well, this is your first mistake. It looks like you think that you can just buy ONE and then stop. Good luck with that! Also, if you plan on shooting them, reloads will produce far better results than surplus ammo will. So, get into reloading!
