P64s are out of stock everywhere...

So, now that P64 is on the C&R list, everyone's out of stock within days. Does anyone know a company that still has them in stock for a reasonable price? Of course, if anyone has it for sale in SoCal, I'm interested too

No loss. I picked through about 7 of them to find the one I bought. After shooting it for a short time I was pretty happy to sell it.

Well, I own quite a few guns that could be described that way. I don't own them for their performance, but for the history that comes with them. And a P64 is sadly missing from my collection of Eastern Block weaponry.

For performance, there's no way any of the older guns would beat good modern weapons, so why even bother with those?

I wouldn't write all of them off. I've heard nothing but good things about the Makarov, and that design is over a decade older than the P64.

I have a FEG PA-63 ( bought 3--2 for me and 1 for my son when J&G had them for $99) and a Bulgarian Makarov. Those two designs are fun to shoot. The P64 just didn't measure up for me. It was too heavy for its size and I really didn't like the trigger on any I tried; I bought the one with the best trigger, but...

I have the PA-63, a couple of Bulgarian Maks, a Russian Baikal, a Russian military Mak, a CZ-82. So clearly Chinese and East German Maks as well as the P64 and P83 are missing from the collection.

Wouldn't get any of them if I were looking for my first or only handgun, but I got that covered with a few others. Which makes P64's performance a rather moot point for me.

That being said, I was just informed that in CA the handgun has to be over 50 years old (regardless of its C&R status) in order to be transferred from out of state if it's not on the roster. So it looks like I have to go and buy it in person with my 03 FFL and bring it to CA myself... Bummer, given that all the close-by places are sold out.

I thought being C&R makes it exempt from roster. If that's the case how did i buy a Yugo M57?

You were given the wrong information.

C&R handguns do not have to be over 50 years old in order to be exempt from the CA DOJ approved list. [PC 12125(b)(3)]

Some out-of-state vendors are confused or ignorant of CA laws and assume they must be over 50 years old.

                  (b) This section shall not apply to any of the following:

The Yugo M57 is not a C&R handgun.

Probably by date of manufacture, for I haven't found them on C&R list. I was looking into them as well.

SOG still has P64s listed in stock too:

I've been very close to buying the M57. I think SOG might be mistaken. The latest (this month) ATF list still does not have M57 on it. http://www.atf.gov/publications/fire...june-2010.html

I would have bought the M57 last week but the lady at SOG was such a pain to deal with-- have dealer send info (you already have it from last October but ok he will resend), have him send email saying he will transfer gun for you (ok done), oh wait his last transfer with us was last year I have to cancel your order and he needs to call us to approve the sale (tell you what, how about I just buy from somebody who wants my money).

After all that and my perception of questionable C&R status, I am going to pass on M57 for now. I'll save up for a P08 or 1917 Enfield rifle.

SOG is the only vendor that is saying the Yugo M57 is C&R.

The Yugo M57 can not be dated by serial numbers because records of when they were made have been destroyed.
The Yugo M57 was made from the late-50s to the mid-80s.
