It's only $175, most people with "bringbacks" ask for the value x10.

Remember, buy the rifle, not the story.

Rifle from the Korean war bringback
My Dad got this rifle from Korea in 1951. It has a bayonett, belt and well whatever you see.I do not know how common this is or anything about it at all.I found out this,Mosin Nagant a rifle from 1938 its a 7.62x54mm rimmed cartridge numbers all match except on the bayonette. bring-backs are extremely scarce. As with all older firearms this rifle must be checked out by a competent gunsmith prior to firing it. All sales are final so be sure of what you are bidding on. Buyer to provide copy of FFL/C&R.

Seems like, if this is an actual bringback, the price would be a lot higher. Do you guys think this might be a scam?

meh, who cares? With that price, you won't get hurt. Should be easy to tell by looking to see if there's any import marks or not in the usual places.

If it has papers then it's a bringback, if not hard to tell just a story

If I lived near Palmdale I would definitely take a look at it. If it has no import mark and especially if the vet (the seller's father) is available to write out a brief description of how he obtained the rifle that could be notarized, I would get it for $175.
                Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

I ended up buying this rifle. It's a 1938 Izhevsk 91/30 with about 60% bluing left. The bore is pretty worn out, as well. It has unusual (that is, I haven't seen similar ones before) sling and bayonet.

There're no import marks on it, and the guy is going to have his father write down the circumstances of how he acquired it in Korea and notarize it.

It has surface rust, so I will have to figure out how to remove it without any sanding or grinding. I heard about some penetrating oils that lift the rust, just need to find one that doesn't damage anything else. Any suggestions from experience are appreciated.

Nice score Nick. You should post some better pics of the rifle and it's markings. I'm interested in pics of the sling and bayonet that you mentioned. Congrats!!!

I was thinking about it but I already have a 1938 M91/30 and a Finn 1933 M27. Had the father had his DD603 form, I would have bought it.

I'll take the pictures later, gotta go through the McDonald threads and read the decision first. Not to mention the small matter of work

Use light oil (Hoppes gun oil works fine) and bronze wool for the surface rust. Just keep the surface oiled and rub gently at first, but its pretty hard to damage the bluing with bronze wool. You can also use 0000 steel wool for stubborn spots but you can damage the bluing if you rub too hard or don't use enough oil. I would save that for stubborn spots only and test on a hidden spot first.
