    M1 Garand irregular ejection

I was watching a vid of me shooting my M1 and I noticed the ejection was all over the place. Some cases were ejected to the left some to the right and even one landed in front of the muzzle. Is the ejector spring worn out or are there any other problems that can cause this?

ejector and/or op rod spring... I'd replace all the springs anyway.. get them from Orion 7 especially the stainless steel op rod spring

What does it take to replace the springs in the bolt and the hammer spring?

I'm glad to see so many mature responses to my question.

I just ran a few clips of LC66 through my Garand on Sunday. The rifle has a complete Wolff spring kit, and a Shuster gas plug. While 3-5 cases per clip ended up in a neat pile right next to me, 3-5 flew a ways out. I've chrono'd LC66 before and found some wild (100fps+) extreme spreads in eight rounds. I haven't tried any handloaded ammo since installing the springs or gas plug to confirm my theory, but I think mil spec ammo is partly to blame for erratic ejection.

This is a fairly common issue seen with garands. Take a look at this thread on the CMP website. http://www.thecmp.org/forums/showthread.php?p=22992

I have a SA M1 that has pretty inconsistent ejection, and I have put 1,000+ rounds through it without any misfeeds, jams, ftf, etc., so guess I am not in a hurry to "fix it".

My M1 has never jammed, FTF, FTE or any other malfunction. I guess lubrication would be the point to start. What lubricants are recommended for the M1?

Mine does the same, I've had one shell go down my shirt and land on the brim of my hat. Didn't think much of it, it fires great and I've fired well over 200 rounds though it.

Generally, a properly lubricated Garand will land the empties to the right and slightly forward of the shooter.
A Wolf recoil/op rod spring is really not the best. The extra power spring often causes problems with feeding and ejection. Use a stock spring or a spring from Orion 7.

as long as it ejects every round i wouldn't worry about anything.

Ok well then whats the best stuff to lubricate an M1? I have talked to people who use gun oil, gun grease, motor oil, bearing grease and just about anything you can imagine.

I was told to use CLP in all my semi auto weapons, My smith who shoots garands and is a marksman is the main one who recommended it. He even gave me a small bottle to try out, It is synthetic and works very well. Prior to his recommendation I used medium grade weapons oil and grease on the M1
