    Cleaning C&R Rifles

    Hi All,
What do you use to clean your old rifles and/or pistols? I only ask because after I got my K-31 I used Breakfree CLP before the first time i went to the range. The bolt seemed to stick and as I had posted in my range report, I had problems with getting the brass to extract. I found the original military cleaning kits for the K-31 and used the grease included and it made a world of difference. The bolt cycling was like butter and brass was flying all over. I am thinking about picking up more of the cleaning kits just for the grease and give it a try on my M39. Is there a similar product? I think I like the grease a lot more than the CLP. I have a C&R bug and as I pick more up I want a good cleaning solution.

So... What are you guys using?

This may be a "to each his own." Never the less, I'm always interested in trying new(to me) products.

    Thanks

Straight-bolts (i.e. K31's & M95's) by and large REQUIRE grease (not just oil) to operate smoothly...

Other bolt-guns don't require so much. Mosin's come to mind. I usually am fine with just a light coat of oil on those. Unless one in particular is giving me grief...

P.s. Oh- and you don't need any particular grease from a cleaning kit. I use "Hoppe's 9 Gun Grease." Mostly 'cause it's cheap & easy to find. And it works like a charm.

My dad just uses CLP or even remoil for his mauser.
as for cleaning.. It depends if you have alot of cosmoline, if so some guys will boil parts in water, hit em with degreaser ( so they wont rust) then oil. As for the barrel+cosmo either way youl have to run quite a few swabs thru the barrel.
