    mummy no.4 mk2

I have trying to acquire a mummy no.4 mk2 from the 1954 undelivered Irish contract. The only ones I have seen for sale are from 1955 - UF 55 AXXXXX, these are not from the Irish contract. The Irish contract are 54 PF30XXXX - PF 35XXXX.

Does any one have or know of anyone who has one of these Irish mummy enfields. If they don't exist, then I'll try to acqurie one of the 1955 mummy enfields instead of waiting for something that's not out there.

    Any help would be appreciated.

There is a 1955 in the mummy wrap at Gunrunners who advertises on Calguns. Their's is a Fazerkley.

BUY, SELL, & TRADE guns. Law Enforcement and civilian sales. TRANSFER DEALER. California legal. We ship worldwide.

    I've considered getting it.

You are correct that the Irish contract have a PF prefix. He says it's an Irish contract, but it's a UF 55 AXXXXX.

Have you already looked at gunbroker.com? I've seen them on there from time to time.

If you collect one of these, do you leave it wrapped? I don't think I could stand that!

Frankly I would unwrap it... I hate to clean cosmo, so, I would probably pay to have it cleaned.

I'd buy the one at Gunrunners; but I am having trouble selling a nice #5 that I consigned last November (at another shop.) It's a Miltech restoration (I supplied the rifle, which is a 1946 Fazerkley).

The 1955 Fazackerley rifles in mummy wrap are often mistakenly called 'Irish contrcat rifles' but this isn't right. The actual irish contract rifles didn't actually go anywhere anyway - they stayed in a warehouse in England I believe. if you can get one do so. not like they'r emaking them any more. I've taken one out of wrap to shoot, and then left one in it but it's super tempting everytime I look at it.

It's a bloody mess fresh out of the mum wrap isn't it... caked with cosmo.

                I have always liked Enfields.

I've read a couple reports that when some rifles were opened up they weren't unissued but refurbed earlier rifles. Be careful!

Any clues on the exterior stickers? If it does have a UF 55 AXXXXX serial number, is there a pretty good chance it's a new 1955?

I've noticed those later serial numbers are much more neatly scribed than war time, hand, electro-stenciled numbers. Almost like they used a mechanical guide (whose name escapes me) for near perfect letters and numbers.

UF 55 means Made fazackerly 1955. A prefix I think were the last lot produced. All these rifles had to have the mummy wrap torn by the receiver to note the serial number of the rifle for import.
