    Magazines vs belt holders/drums

Has it been determined in CA whether the 50 round ammo drums for the MG34/42 or the RPD are considered magazines or not?

    thanks,

The drum to hold the belt isn't illegal (it can't feed a firearm, now can it?). The belt that's over ten rounds is.

It's not "magazine vs belt." It's "belt = magazine."

Yeah, if the container that holds the belt were considered a magazine, we'd all have to get rid of our ammo cans.

Ah, I answered the question a bit wierd... He was asking if they were magazines, not if they were legal.

            Doi. My mistake.

No, the thing that holds the belt isn't a mag. The belt is a mag.

            Hope that clears that up.

I believe the key phrase is "ammunition feeding device"

                That was quick! Thanks folks!

                So to summarize:

So the drums are legal to import into CA.
Belts are not legal to to import in to CA.

Posession of belts imported before 2001(?) is legal.

What about use of these belts in a a gripless semi auto MG 34/42 or RPD?

                thanks,

                tim
