making Mosin bolt operate smoother

My bolt has been a little rough to slide forward and back when it's open (with handle vertical). I was wondering if polishing the HORRID machining marks on the bolt connector/guide bar (those circular rough machining marks in the groove) might make it smoother to operate? Would this work and are there any drawbacks to doing this? Thanks

One trick I've seen recommended is to paint your bolt with something like a magic marker. Then you operate the bolt a few times and check for scraped off magic marker ink to see where it is rubbing. That might save you polishing in places that won't help.

I would recommend checking to make sure you have enough clearance between the top of the magazine/trigger guard and the bottom of the receiver. I had a rifle recently that when I tightened the action screws I could no longer close the bolt all the way because the top of the magazine was rubbing the bottom of the bolt.

+1 polish

I have done this on a few I use as shooters. Take the bolt apart and give a light polish on the mating areas, this helped prevent the dreaded sticky bolt when opening. Then the same for the body that contacts the receiver.

This and a good quality lube and you should see a big difference
