Sorry man, CA 03 FFLs cannot purchase C&R pistols directly from out of state. We gotta DROS them just like everybody else, or we can physically go out of state to purchase them, import them and file the DOJ form and pay $19 per to register.

      yep....he's right.

And we also can't legally buy a gun from somewhere just for the purpose of transfering it to you. Sorry about that.....

        So what does that mean?
I cannot buy one whole sale from the
importers website through somebody with a
        license?

If no, then that means I'll have to do it through like
a big5 correct? ...and still wait the 10 days? I just actually
want to buy some cheap czs through whole sale or gun-ebays instead
of the jacked up prices turners sell them at ($250+ $30 register +gun lock).

          Oh ok.
I didn't know it was like that.

I thought anyone could buy a relic through somebody with
          a 03ffl. Hm.
          Well that sucks.

The purpose of the 03 FFL is for "collecting" curios and relics. Of course in the process of finding the nicest pieces for my collection, I will occasionally buy two or three of an item and "handpick" for myself. I could sell you the ones I don't want, but ONLY in the process of improving my collection. I couldn't buy it with the express purpose of selling it to you.

Any 01 FFL can have a C&R pistol imported and charge you whatever they want for the transfer. I'm sure you can find somebody who will transfer it for 55-75$ (including DROS) plus the 150 the pistol costs & 20 for overnight delivery.

If a C&R FFL goes out of state and purchases a C&R handgun, does one have to physically transport it back to CA or can I ship it back to myself?

There's been times when I've flown out for a 2 day business trip and during my "down time" I go haunt the local gun shops. Needless to say, if I find something I really like/want, I'm going to want to buy it. And I sure as hell do not want to deal with the Airlines bringing it back if I don't need to.

from everything i've read, it's cool to ship it to yourself or hand-carry it back. you just have to register it within 5 days.

http://64.82.96.51/cal-ffl.htm has all sorts of rad c&r for californian info.

Cool... thanks for that link. I just took a peek and there is one bit of info that I think is incorrect. It states that a 03 FFL is subject to the 10-day waiting period for ANY transfer thorough a 01 FFL dealer.

I don't think that is true, as I believe this CA statue exempts C&R transfers for 03 FFL holders with a valid COE.

In the BATF publication ATF P 5300.5 State Laws and Published Ordinances - Firearms, on Page 40, take a look at PC 12078(t)(1).

                      It states:

The waiting period described in Sections 12071, 12072, and 12084 shall not apply to the sale, delivery, loan, or transfer of a firearm that is a curio or relic, as defined in Section 478.11 of Title 27 of the Code of Federal Regulations, or its successor, by a dealer or through a law enforcement agency to a person who is licensed as a collector pursuant to Chapter 44 (commencing with Section 921) of Title 18 of the United States Code and the regulations issued pursuant thereto who has a current certificate of eligibility issued to him or her by the Departmentof Justice pursuant to Section 12071.

Unless I'm interpreting that incorrectly, it sure looks like an exemption from the 10 day waiting period for 03 FFL's with a California COE, to me.

I don't think this is right. It's my understanding the CADOJ relies on the BATFE list to define what is a C&R. A C&R doesn't necessarily need to be 50 years old to be classified as a C&R.

That is correct, and a frequent misconception we see here.

true, the batfe are the ones who decree what is c&r and what is not, but in order for it to be shipped to a c&r holder's door, it must be 50 years old. i'm thinking that's what the website was referring to.

It is unlikely BIG 5 will do transfers on handguns - maybe if the store manager was your friend or relative, but I doubt any of the BIG 5 stores would do it for a general walk-in.

Also, Turner's regularly puts up their Cz-52s for sale at $149.00, which includes 2 magazines , and some cheap accessories like a flap holster, cleaning kit, lanyard. The ones that Turner's sells are also usually in great condition, and the one I got from them is nicer than most of those I have seen from many on-line sources.

By the time you get these through an online source like Century, IF you can get them shipped into CA, because many C&R wholesalers won't ship C&R handguns to CA, and by the time you pay the wholesaler's usual $129.00 to $149.00 price, plus shipping, plus CA FFL 01 dealer transfer fee of $55 to $75, plus that most dealers will charge you for a lock anyway since the Cz-52s don't come with them, you will be well over the sale price from Turners, and nearly meeting their non-sale price.

I think if you are patient, Turner's will have them on sale again soon, probably at that $149.00 price. When they do, I am getting another one!!

Here is the one I got at Turner's just this past February when they had them on sale for $149 :
