Looks cool, I've been thinking of doing the same thing. But I just can't bring myself to pay more for a darn mount than I did for the rifle itself.

...and end up with a rifle that is worth less than it was before you scoped it?

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

This mount replaces the rear leaf sight to create a scout type rifle. The rifle can always be returned to military configuration. I have no experience with the mount or scope, but it is on sale for $109 which is inexpensive if you are willing to gamble. Someone will buy it if you don't like it. Take a chance and give us a report.

This will probably cost more than you are looking to spend but I found on ebay, a couple of weeks ago, a scope mount that attaches to a PU base but instead of having the PU scope rings on top it had a slotted rail. Of course the base requires drilling and tapping of the receiver but if a guy were to get ahold of or already have an ex-sniper........

I bought the mount awhile back. I mounted it with my own scope and didnt like it. I tightened it up but still had some movement on it. So i took it off. I just figured it wont hold zero that way. Id go with the receiver mount kit but you have to drill and tap and bend your bolt. Here the mount for like $10 then just mount your scope.

I'd like to attach a scope to my M39 just for fun, but there is no way I'm going to drill and tap the receiver...Has anyone ever found a non-permanent mount for an M39?

Follow this link. These are the BEST non-altering, won't loose zero, custom made for each type of variant scout mounts available (and cheaper than the one in the OP).
Attached is a pic of one of mine
