      I could be wrong but werent some GEW98 receivers either used for k98 length rifles OR had their barrels cut to be k98 length? If so, could this be a k98 length Gew98 with a full length Gew98 stock added later for the "mannlicher" look?

        From what it looks like to me, the front barrel band is missing. Infortunatly, it looks like the front sight prohibits the ring from being mounted so I dont think you will be able to use one.

          You mean that someone cut the barrel and bayo lug. Then dumped the cleaning rod? How SAD!

            You're thinking of the Kar98AZ, and I doubt it. First- They were not cut-downs; Kar98AZ's were purpose built. Also, I don't believe DWM (Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken) made Kar98AZ's. I could be wrong on that though...
