    C&R License came in.

I just recieved my C&R in the mail and what is the first dumb thing I did? I signed it without making copies. Bad mistake from what I have read. Is there anything I can do to correct this mistake, should I order another copy of it? Thanks for any help.

Personally, I would take a copy of that signed license if you resigned it in blue ink.

btw a lot of vendors will accept a faxed copy so you can just fax them what you already have signed.

Might work. The purpose of your signature is to affirm that you are presenting a true and accurate copy of your license.

Some FFL's ask you to sign your copies in contrasting ink such as blue or red to show it's an original ink signature.

ATF started allowing FAXed or scanned signed licenses some time ago -- and who could tell the difference from a copy or the original.

You might have a problem with over the counter C&R transactions -- although I have presented an ink signed copy and the dealer made a copy and handed back my copy -- I handed it back and said, "you need my ink signed copy." (They probably don't since a FAXed FFL is legal.)

Meantime, you should try to rectify the mistake.

You might call your local ATF and explain the mistake and ask them how to get it reissued. You goofed -- but, you've not committed a crime; they should help you. However, it might have to go back through Martinsville NFLC which would take some time.

Wait for a few more members to chime in -- I'm sure you'll get several opinions.

              Kindest Regards,

You can just sign it again after you make the copy, no laws against that.

If you really want a new copy of your license then you can contact the Licensing Center and they will send you a new one. The law says they are supposed to charge you $1 per copy, but I've never heard of anybody actually being charged.

Or, if you are any good at Photoshop, you can just scan a copy into your computer and remove the signature with the "clone" stamp.
