Can opener for milsurp sardines

I lost the can opener that came with some 7.62x54 I bought recently. Will a regular household can opener work? Or mebbe an old p-38 US Mill can opener?

None of my household can openers work on the spam cans that have gone through here. I haven't tried a p-38 or p-51, but have used a church key. I don't recommend the church key unless you want to make a field expedient bread (and thumb) slicer.

I think the rim would be too large for a standard kitchen can opener, and a P-38 might work, but probably wouldn't survive the operation. From what I've seen, your best bet would be to used a chisel & hammer, or find someone nearby that has an opener laying around--where are you located?

Chisel and hammer works just fine for me. I've never actually used the supplied can-opener. A flat head screwdriver or a bayonet and a rock does it in a pinch.

just a reminder you dont have to open the whole can you only need to open up a corner enough to get one box out then they will all come out
