    Value of Colt 1911

A friend of mine has this Colt 1911. Serial # 364XX. Belonged to an Uncle. He said it's always had the ivory grips on it as far as he can remember. The Colt logo behind the serrations on the left side of the slide is barely visible. It came with a US military style holster in good condition stamped SEARS 1942 on back in small letters. It has one mag with no markings. He's trying to find out how much it is worth.

I'm not sure of the value, its interesting to note that the grip (not the ivory) shape is a lot different from other 1911s.

According to Coltautos.com the serial number on this pistol is a 1913 Colt USMC production.

Short trigger is 1911A1 style. Appears to have 1911A1 arched mainspring housing. And front strap appears to have been checkered. Front sight appears modified.

Appears someone tried to remove the United States Property -- found often. Indicates that it's been refinished.

Correct grips would be wood double diamond.

It's Colt 1911 with minimal collector's value. IMO it's worth in the $800 ballpark.

Too bad its not in original condition. It would have been worth big $$. There is a slight possibility it was one of thousands of 1911's that the Government sold thru the NRA back in the early 1960's for $17.50 shipped to your door. A gun owners life was much easier before the Gun Control Act of 1968. It is kind of a different mode. Some one put a lot of work into it.

Those grips look like they came off a single action Colt.

I agree, Just because the grips fit doesn't necessarily mean they are correct...either way I think you got a great peace of history and an interesting piece worth investigating further.

The pistol has some serious issues that have been alluded to and seen. I
haven't seen a pic of the holster---it may be worth more then the pistol. Pete

littlejake i'm impressed. I took the gun to a gunsmith and here's his opinion. He said the hand grip was widend, remington hammer (possible aresenal rebuild), 1911A1 trigger, ivory grips (should be double diamond). He put the retail value in the $800.00 range. He said unless it was custom made for someone of historical significance it may be worth more. The holster is an original military. I didn't know Sears made holsters for the military. It's stamped SEARS 1942, here's pics of holster. Sorry, I can't figure out how to post pics. Thanks for your input.
