    Mosin Nagant m38 question

i bought my Mosin Nagant m38 from big 5 in excellent condition.
i cleaned it for about 2 hours top to bottom, oiled it well.

took it out for a shoot 2 weeks ago while skeet shooting and put 10 rounds through her.

well it is real tight loading and ejecting when cycling through to fire...the barrel is pristine, all number stamps on the gun match.

do i need to make some modifications or pound threw a ton of corrosive rounds to loosen her up???

oh and big 5 thought they were selling a 91/30 but realized after the papers were drawn up and dros started it was a m38 and got for 99 bucks.made in 1944 from the Izhevsk Arsenal.with carbine stock in great shape.

First of all- congrats on your M38! Second- You lucked out! An M38 for the price of a 91/30!? Way to go! M38's haven't been that cheap in a long time.

Third- Mosin "sticky bolt" is a common problem. (Although "sticky bolt" is a misnomer- considering it's actually the shell casing in the chamber causing the problem).

There must be hundreds of places to look on how to 'cure' Mosin "sticky bolt"

But here's a great place to start:

      Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

When I got my M38 there was a small piece of metal that more then likely got hit by a cleaning rod years and years ago, and it was shaving shells. That was a REAL sticky bolt. Ran some 600 grit on a dowel in the chamber and it cleaned it up. No more sticky bolt on my M38. The vids from youtube posted above are about the best things you can do. My M38 was ~$80 when I got it, years back. Wish I could find another one.

Of the 13 MN's I own, none has required more than a 20 ga. brass brush on a cordless drill at low speed using Hoppes #9 and carefully cleaning the locking lugs to remedy a sticky bolt.

I now there are real examples of burrs and real problems with damaged chambers, just eliminate the easy ones first before using any lapping compound or polishing the chamber. It is easy to overdo it.

the rpoblem is a little ore then just sticky bolt, the gun seems very virgin threw the b ullet cycle, could not find any burrs.the bolt locking side seems very tight, maybe a little grit and/or dremel edging???????
