hr garand ?

i have a h r m1 that i might be selling and had a question about some parts on it. this is a cmp rifle and everything is h r exept the bolt and op rod wich are sa. its a koean war era 1951 and have noticed that h r's on gunbroker in the same and sometime worse condition sell between 800 -1000. there are several on gb like mine with sa bolts and other mixed parts and they are asking 875-900. overall mine has a better stock and finish than these and was wondering if 850 would be out of line for mine. i would post better pics but its just a big pain in the ***.

Your rifle does seem to be in better condition the the average Garand. However; I think you will have a better chance of selling it for this price range once CMP runs out. There are always going to be people willing to pay more rather then go through the wait and paperwork, but for those of us willing to do a little extra work...saving $200-$300 and going through the wait is definitely worth it. I think CMP tends to set the market $ on these. There already out of winchesters I think.

actually this one was mfg. in 55 and not 51 not that it makes a difference.

With HRA, they for the most part are similar in value, except for early HRA's with the difference ampersand between the H and R

The main factors that also contribute to garand value
-muzzle/throat condition and barrel condition
- is the stock correct and marked

With prices down, and the CMP still with supply and selling at about 620 shipped for a similar rifle, if you can wait you should, if not, it might take a while to sell in the 800 range. Replacing the bolt and op rod so its all 100% HRA would help too

Might be worth waiting and seeing if you can't do an outright trade...your bolt and op rod for the correct HRA parts your looking for. There's gotta be someone out there that needs the same parts you do for a different manufacturer.

Remember, just throwing HRA parts on it will not make it correct. They also have to have the correct heat lot / drawing numbers and be correct for the year on manufacture. You can make it all HRA, but if the parts aren't correct, all you will have is a nice service grade rifle.

Gun broker is a good way to judge prices , it is helpfull to sign in and look at completed auctions to see what things actually have sold for . You will quickly notice that there are people that keep listing the same item over and over at a high price or high reserve and it not selling . It costs nothing until the item actually sells.

It really depends on what you're looking at. I bought one of my rifles for about half the price that similar rifles were selling for on Gun Broker.

Some people ask WAYYYY too much for their stuff on gun broker.
