Dime a dozen guns and negotiating

I located 2 Russian SKS's at a local pawnshop the other day, Price tag says $399.95 + tax and Dros.

After talking for a little the worker told me that he would take $350 Cash + tax and DROs.

Now the history on these rifles is unknown, so forget round count etc.

One has a darker typical russian looking stock, but it has gouges, scratches dents.

the other is Lighter stocked less scratches.

One is 1954, the other 1950. Both look to have cosmoline stains and need extensive cleaning.

    NOW:

What would you C&R guys do/suggest, Which one should I pick, How much would you pay, and how would you haggle.

uh, $350 for a Russian is a steal. If you don't get it, tell me where it is and I'll go buy it.

If the 54 is an Izhevsk, I'd get that one. If not, get the 50.

As long as the sks is in complete, functional condition, $350 for a russian is a good price.

Here is a pic of Izhevsk and Tula receiver markings. Izhevsk is the triangle, Tula is the star.

                Thank you MN,

350 + tax + DROs im looking at $419 and change,

and they are both Tulas, I remember the star, they both are complete with slings etc, but I just dont know which to go with in terms of finish and condition.

also forgot to mention if one is rebuilt and the other isnt...is that something worth considering? and I mean rebuilt in the factory with markings: 1954r/1950r.

A non-refurbished sks is going to be worth more in the long run.

Assuming they are both refurb'd, I'd still get the 1950, even if it's the one with the more beat stock. It's a harder date to find than 1954.

Russian SKS' are great. You cannot beat them for quality except maybe with East German ones.
