M95 feeding issues

so my Steyr m95 carbine is still giving me issues. i've only had it out twice since i got it almost 2 years ago, mostly because i can't get it to work right! initially, it had a bad mag catch spring, so you'd fire a round or two and the clip and remaining rounds would launch out the top when you'd open the bolt, lol. i fixed that, but it only feeds the first 2 rounds reliably. seems like the clip drops down a little and the bolt won't catch the rim. i pulled it apart and cleaned up the follower and springs, oiled it all up but it still doesn't want to work. considering getting a whole new follower/spring assembly. don't know what else to do. please help!

Did you also replace the mag catch when you changed the spring? You didn't mention if you have tried more than one clip. Have you tried a different clip?

replaced the spring, then replaced the catch and the spring, because i broke it putting the new catch in, those springs are fragile and it's a tight spot. so i bought like 5 catch springs from numrich. also tried several clips, i have a ton of them. same result with all of them. almost seems like they don't sit in the magwell right or something. kinda bothersome, because the rifle i got is in really nice shape. just doesn't friggin' work right, lol.

Could it be the lifter spring? I'll look long and hard at my M95's tonight and try to get some more ideas.

Tell me more about your really nice M95. I have a real beauty and coincidentally it won't feed worth a crap either, though for different reasons. I wonder if the same goon refurbed our guns and never functioned tested them. Mine certainly had not been fired since refurbishment.

mine's an austrian, not a budapest, pretty dark colored hardwood stock, i love the dark ones, pristine bore, good bluing, matching numbers. 80 bucks at big5 and off i went. turns out the shop my dad works at had a crap-ton of 8x56r lying about so he got all of it for me. i ordered some for JG when they still had it too, so i've got a bunch of clips and a bunch of surplus ammo from the 30s-50s. all i've taken out so far has gone bang which is good. of course, it doesn't go bang when the bolt just slides over it and doesn't chamber a round. good flinch test though, and these little monsters will get you flinching, especially when you don't shoot often enough. anyhow, thinking i might just order the whole new mag kit from numrich. at the very least, both the follower springs, probably another catch and a few more catch springs too, just in case. you know what's depressing though? i got a carcano carbine and the mannlicher mag setup works frickin' flawlessly on that sucker. i dunno, there's been times i wanted to throw my m95 in a fire but it's just so damn nice looking and that cartridge is a bruiser, i really want it to work. i love my old boomsticks. maybe if our guns mate two wrongs will make a right and it'll spawn a super m95. or we'll just have two crappy-feeding carbines i dunno

Check to see if the magazine is pusing up on the rounds (good) or the clip (bad)- simply look at the bottom of the magazine well (while it's loaded) to find the answer...

Mine has no manufacturers mark, believe it or not. I don't know if it was scrubbed or what.
Hopefully swapping out the follower and spring will solve your troubles. There's a ton of parts for sale on Gunbroker if you can't find them them through Numrich.

Lol, yeah. Pretty but useless. I sold my other two that were ugly as sin but functioned perfectly. Guess you can't have it all.
