Okay, so after 3 weeks of mulling around and procrastinating about filling up my C&R form, I finally finished the d@mn thing and sent it on it's way.
Now I wait.... seeing that I can't wait until it arrives, I actually pushed my butt out of my chair and went and bought a M-N M44...My first ever surplus rifle. I checked it properly (or did I?) checked the bore (still has rifling) ....noticed that It didn't have a lot of cosmoline, checked if s/n matches and it does. It's a Tula factory rifle....
I just got it home yesterday and disassembled everything and cleaned the hell out of it. I used Gun Scrubber and drenched the whole barrel, action and bolt (was that a good thing using gun scrubber?) afterwards I cleaned it still with CLP. I have no idea on what to use to clean a surplus rifle, but thinking that it's a rifle, my present cleaning materials will suffice. I still need to re-do the bore as I could still see some crud. But at the moment it looks good and ready for the range.
I also bought some ammo from AIM Surplus and looking at it now, are Hungarian 7.62x54R ammo good? Are they corrosive? I'm thinking of hitting RR&GC this coming wednesday and I want to know if I still need to send this to a gunsmith and have it checked thoroughly?
Are there gunsmiths in or near the El Cerrito area?
