And you spelled MOSIN wrong LOL. That rifle is a sniper repro in case you didnt know, they didnt start producing the 91/30 PU until 1943 and they didnt use older rifles to make em. As far as Arshin sights, why dont you get a M-91 or Dragoon. I just took a M-91 Former Dragoon that was in M-91/30 config and replaced some parts to get it back into a mostly correct config (front and rear sights, front and rear bands and band retaining springs). Still need either a upper handguard with brass endcaps or a M-27 style handguard to finish it up.

mine or the OP?? Mine came from century as a regular 91/30 rework. Once I found out some info about dragoons I knew that this rifle was not happy in the config it was in. Still need to slug the bore on it, first time I shot lead bullets in it I got nice side profiles of them, but FMJ bullets shot fine, kinda wierd.

You are correct sir, I mispoke and meant Late 1942, thats one of the reasons why Enemy at the gates was wrong(besides the fact that it is even reported that V.Z. used a PE/PEM sniper not a PU in stalingrad)

Noonanda, you got that stock like that from Century???? Or did you re-work the stock that came with your rifle? My stock from Century is in good condition, but the flaking shiny shellac finish makes it just look cheap. How'd you get yours to look so pretty and natural?

I bought this stock off ebay, it was already like this. If you need or want to strip the shellac Acetone will take it off. I think who-ever had this stock kust stripped the shellac off it, it might have gotten an oil finnish added but I cant tell what.

Marcus, the front and rear bands and springs are sold by numrich under the
"1910" Mosin nagant catagory, I ordered em on a whim just to see what they had, and got solid bands and milled bandsprings.

The rear sight was the easy, the pins popped out with some light taps from a punch and hammer, and the base slid off with afew taps from a wood block. I used some paste solder to secure the base, it hasnt budged.

You live over by temecula, we need to get together and do some Mosin shooting sometime. I'll bring some of my toys and you bring the Ex-cossack plus some of the other rifles that you have talked about on gunboards LOL We can call it a Mosin day LOL

How can you tell if its an M-91 and not a 91/30? Ive been thinking of picking up a hex receiver online (C&R purchase). What should I look for? Years? I mean I always figured if the rifle was pre 1930 it would be by default an m-91.

I already have an m38. Love that little gun!
