    Garand Tanker at Targetmasters...

For those in the area, something that might be of interest...

There was a Springfield M1 Garand Tanker in .308 at Targetmasters this afternoon - the asking price is $850. SN is 297xxxx. It's got some nice looking wood on it - walnut with nice figuring, but I didn't have them take it out of the rack to check it out.

I'm no Garand expert, and don't know if that's a good deal or how authentic it may or may not be, but if anyone wants to check it out, there you go!

According to discussions on CSP Garand forum, there's no such thing as an "authentic" tanker M1. There were two assembled late in WWII to test the concept of a paratrooper rifle, but one was destroyed, and the other is in a museum somewhere. Everything else is someone's modification of ordinary M1s to some undefined standard -- including around a hundred redone in the Philipines decades ago.

    ..or so I read.
