Carbine version of Mosin, what'sa good price?

When I bought my Mosie 91 yesterday at Big 5's sale, I noticed they had the short carbine version on the shelf too but the price was almost double the sale price of the 91 (89.00 with coupon) at 179.00. Is 179 a good price or do they go on sale frequently too like the 91's do?

Is it a M44 (with bayo) M38 (no bayo) or 91 59(no bayo)?

M 38's are rare. M44 is common and @ big 5 on sale quite a bit for 100, 91 59 pretty common, but haven't seen one @ my local big 5 lately. Bought mine from gun shop in excellent condition (unissued) for around 130.

Wait until the M44 goes on sale and get one. If you get really lucky, you'll be able to snag an M38 on sale somewhere too.
      Welcome to the Mosin addiction!
(Now start looking around for an M39 )

Yes, I paid $74 for one at B5 just 3.5 years ago.

To the OP, if you want a M38 or M44, just ask the salesperson at Big 5 if they ever go on sale, and if they could sell it to you at the last sale price that rifle was on sale for. Some salespeople will look up the last sale price for you on their computer and let you have it at that price just to get a sale. It does vary from store to store / salesperson whether they would pull the extra stops for customers. I recently got $90 off a new shotgun just by asking for the last sale price.

M38's and M44's have dried up, but there are still all plentiful amount of 91/30's. Your probably not going to find the first two in big 5 any more. I can't remember the last time I have seen one. About 6 months ago, I would walk in at least 2 times a week, looking for them, and even had them check the distribution center. Never had any luck! Check the Market Place here. You will find something. I would guesstimate a numbers matching, and halfway decent to go for about 150~. 91/30's on the other hand, don't pay more then 120! They do not need to be DROS'ed they are cash and carry.

When Big 5 has a sale they're usually around $149.00-$169.00. My brother bought one last month for around $155.00 (before tax and DROS) after using a 10% off coupon I gave him.

Another good idea is to check out Check gunbroker.com. Don't confuse the "buy know" or "minimum bid" price with the actual sales price. Follow a couple of the auctions to the conclusions and you'll get an idea what the sales price is. This a good starting point for what the market is paying. At any one time, I'm usually following 15-20 auctions trying to get an idea what going prices are on rifles I want to buy.

Pay attention to the private sales forum, Mosin nagant M38 and M44 do come up for sale on a regular basis. I recently purchased a M38 in excellent condition and matching serial numbers for $150.00 cash and carry.

Also, post a WTB request in the WTB forum. I've found a couple items rather quickly that way.

Good points. Also keep in mind the guys on gunbroker are probably not in Cali and a rifle shipped will be about 25 bucks. Good place to get a "good idea" on how much it goes for though. Support the CGN Marketplace!

Agreed, the WTB forum is win. I snagged my 38 from there about this time last year after a week or two of bumping my ad

Mosin M38 for sale on the Private Firearms sale forum.

Price is $125.00 IMO that is a about as good a price as you're going to see.
