Yes, definitely a Mosin... and I had to read this thread to my wife ( a huge lost fan) because she distinctly remembers me mentioning to her (like I point out for every show where I see firearms I own) the Mosin Sayied and the SKS Kate was carrying. I think she is getting tired of me pointing out them out but tolerates my hobie quite well.

"Lost" rifles

I noticed the 10 round magazines on the Lost semi autos, and as for wives putting up with my hobby. I once dated a girl that was vehemently anti-gun. She was the best lay I've ever had. I'm not with her anymore." Formerly we suffered from crime. Today we suffer from laws" - Tacitus (55-120 CE)Comment

back in the 80's when these rifles were supposed to have appeared on the island, did anyone even make a 10 round mag for the AK? you'd think that they'd have had surpluss 30's kicking around.Comment

It is called The New Politically Correct Hollywood!
If you were the Darma Project folks, would you not outfit your people with a full room of Military Weapons including 30 rnd mags, and Rocket Launchers?
I sure would!
Instead today we get 10 rnd mags, bolt action rifles and old mil surplus rifles being used... Funny the Darma Project folks spent TONS of money on computer systems, communications, bunkers, Sonic Walls etc. and skimped on the firearms... Hollywood just trying to be sensitive and Politically Correct vs. being REAL!!
On another note, I am really surprised that Animal Rights Activists did not file a law suit over the Polar Bear(s) being killed/injured in a couple of different episodes.. Even if they were Computer Generated!

What is "Lost" and why is it relevant to the real world, even if attempting to pitch it as a device for existentialistic philosophical lessons?
I assume this is yet another idle-time killing TV show like "American Idol" or "Gilligan's Island" ?

It's a show on Abc, its not really relevant to anything, its not really an existentialist philosophical lesson, its just so vauge that everyone thinks its smarter than it is.
and yes it's a time killing device, but here's the kicker: you can watch it with chicks, they like the plot & sawyers butt, and they have a gun every 10-15 min or so so it keeps us guys ocupied.Comment

Hmm. I never thought about the parallels between Gilligan's Island and Lost before. This bears investigation.
I guess Freckles is Mary Anne, and that rich blonde chick is Ginger...Primary author of gunwiki.net - 'like' it on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Gunwiki/242578512591 to see whenever new content gets added!Comment

Actually, if you had audibly heard me speak those thoughts, you may have asked "Are you being facetious?".
I was. And I would actually draw closer parallels to "Lost" being a rip-off of "Lord of the Flies".
The lack of originality in Hollywood now days is appalling. It's as if Hollywood's creativity is suffering from constipation, and the only thing it is forcibly spitting out are bloody celluloid hemorrhoids, one after another, time and time again, and when it can't do that, out comes putrefied recycled crap. But crap floats right? And a good majority of people will watch anyway; out of boredom maybe?
Watch it with girls? I married a hottie.
Watch it for the guns? I have a collection where I could spend the same time as watching that show, on shooting a separate and different gun from my collection each day, 365 days a year, and still not get through the whole collection in a year's time.

Just cause you're married doesn't mean you get to stop doing things with the lil lady. I'm getting married April 3rd and I'll still be doing little things like watching lost with the wife because she likes to sit there with me and watch tv. (personally I'd rather be chasing down obscure gun parts online or working on something)
And as far as the gun collection... I hate you
mine isn't that big but I'm still a college student, and if I had that many in my little appartment I'd have to start stacking them as furniture.

The show is definitely well written, cast and managed to keep me intrigued for the third consecutive season... Having watched the last episode - they certainly got the continuity down and continuity is one thing that 90% of shows and movies miss... It's a social time as well - go to friends' house, have some brews and watch it on Tivo, skipping commercials - what could be better?
There are certainly misses and certain implausible moments , but these are much more rare than other high budget TV dramas. For those whom don't know - continuity is making sure that Sayeed always has an SKS and not Mosin in one shot/MP5 in another... Continuity problems have been a real kicker for some in the gun community - worst example would be "Borne identity" where US Embassy Marine breaches the door with M16A2 and enters the room with a PDW
I was less bothered Lost's "California compliant" weapons than most of the characters trim and proper appearance - then again, Russo's rifle is in VG+ condition after 14 years in the jungle... Any woman that could figure out how to take out a firing pin on a rifle is a keeper as well! Also, movie companies are not bound by California laws - not sure how true that is for Hawaii though...

Lost is actually good TV. It's filmed not taped, has excellent cinematography, great acting for the most part (though the last episode as a unrelated time-filler sub-plot was an excellent thread wrap using lots of footage and bits from the previous two seasons, the two people who die deserved it), is well written and relatively unique and has real musicians scoring it like they would a movie, and the best part, it is closet science fiction. Nip/Tuck, Prison Break and Heroes are also excellent series that have pretty much redefined drama television.
Really good shows are pretty rare these days, but right now there's good entertainment on. Much more than there was a couple of decades ago, unless you consider TJ Hooker, Different Strokes and the Brady Bunch more intelligent. lol
