Depends on the manufacturer and year.

In general, no, 8mm ammo is not hard to find as long as one is willing to shop online.

Turk and Yugo are about the most prevalent out there that I've seen. Lots available.

So, Kind of a stupid question. Is 8mm Mauser really 7.92? The differences then between this and 7mm is old school Mauser and WW2 Mauser? Thanks

We call it 8mm Mauser but that is just another name for 7.92x57mm. It has been around since 1888 in all of its variations, so it pre-dates 7mm Mauser (7x57mm) by a few years. Over the years the Germans changed the bullet diameter of the 7.92x57mm cartridge from .318 to .323, the bullet shape from round to pointed, and the bullet weight from 226gr down to 154gr and then up to 196gr. During WWI they mostly used cartridges with the 154gr bullet in their infantry rifles and during WWII they mostly used cartridges with the 196gr bullet. I think the 196gr version was originally designed for the German machine guns during WWI, but they ended up liking it in rifles too, so they switched by the time WWII had started. The 7mm Mauser was mostly used in rifles that Mauser built for Spain and many Latin American countries.

No, I don't think I'll ever get over Macho Grande.
