C & R .308 Bolt Action?

What are the good ones and what are the bad ones as far as accuracy?

.308 was created in 1952, so 50 year old guns of that flavor will be rare. Winchester 70 maybe?

I can only think of one rifle that is anywhere near that, that being an FR-8 and meant for low power 7.62x51 nato. Everything else is a refurbish of something into 7.62x51 nato. And i can't even remember the group i got with mine.

1912 Chilean Mausers. Standard Mauser 98s refurbed to 308. Just changing the barrel does not change the C&R status, as long as the rifle is still in it's basic military form.
1912 Chilean Mausers were rebarreled in 1961, using 1903 Springfield barrels. Approx. 1/2" was cut off the chamber, it was then rethreaded to Mauser threads, and rechambered to 308(7.62 NATO). In the process, the barrel was turned down from the original Springfield tapered profile to Mauser stepped style.
The alternative would be Lee Enfields in 308.

Israel converted Mausers to 7.62x51 as well, K98's if I am not mistaken (with the Nazi markings peened out, of course!).

Lee Enfield No.4's were converted in Canda for &.62 NATO for service rifle competitions. Some are single shot and some had the magazines converted also. There are super accurate if you want an old rifle

There were also Lee-Enfields converted commercially using kits intended for converting military rifles. This included both No. 4s and No. 5s. The conversion included a new barrel with the same contours as the .303 one, a new bolt head, new extractor, a clip guide adapter, a new magazine (there were two types I am aware of), and depending on the magazine used, a new ejector (I believe one of the mags had a built-in ejector). These are seperate from the Canadian conversions and the L7s.

I have an FR-8 in 7.62x51,1912 Steyr in 7.62x51,K98 Mauser from Isreal in 7.62x51,RFI Enfield in 7.62x51.They are all very cool rifles and a lot of fun to shoot.They are still out there,you should try some,you will like it.

I really like the FR-8s that I own, have an Israeli mauser and it is cool but the quick handling open sights of the FR-8 are hard to beat.

Another +1 for FR-8. It has the large ring 98 mauser receiver and can handle most surplus .308 loads just fine. The FR-7, on the other hand, is good for the lighter NATO 7.62x51 only.

This kinda wants to make me want to get another fr-8 for the purpose of scoping it. be glad that i'm too broke right now to defile a piece of history.
