    yugo m59 sks stock

i just bought a yugo m59 sks and i want to get an extra stock for it so i could paint that dark red that some russian sks come with without messing up the original stock which i also really like. My question is will any sks stock fit it and where can they be bought?

You find Yugo SKS stocks on eBay all the time. Avoid Chinese SKS stocks (cheap and plentiful) as they have a slimmer action, and definitely won't fit.

I have no experience with Russian, Romanian, Albanian stocks / actions, so couldn't tell you for sure.

I just checked out www.gunbroker.com for you and there are alot. When you get on GB just type in SKS STOCK. Do not use Albanian or Chinese. Russian and Romanian Okay.Good Luck.

The Soviets did not "paint" the stocks of their SKS rifles. They used a shellac. The red color comes from a combination of the shellac and the color of the wood used for the stock.

and what, if any, would be the best way to reproduce that red color?

Some have tried to reproduce the same color on their AK rifles. Calling it "Russian red". I'm sure just "googling" Russian red formula will get many sources.

I think Lancaster Arms is the company that coined the phrase. To me it looks gaudy and just doesn't match the original color on the Soviet SKS stocks.
