keep my mosin nagant m44 or K98?

so, I have to sell my collection. I need some opinions on what rifle I should keep. I plan on using the one I keep for hunting boar, deer and black bear. I have a mosin nagant m44 and a K98. both are in great condition and I love both equally for their looks and history. What I need to consider is the usefullness, commonality of finding ammo, upgradeability and anything else you have insight on. please help me to make a qualified decision based on facts and not assumptions. thank you for your input in advanced.

Heres a link to my sale thread, if you are interested in buying some C&R rifles. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...46#post3968446

I don't hunt, but the range accuracy of the 98 is going to far exceed the m44 at all distances, with the difference getting huge beyond 150 yards. The m44 is a much handier rifle, especially if you remove the bayo and get it sighted in without it. I guess it depends on what you are going to hunt.

I have both also. I shoot the m44 more only because i have a spam can of ammo for it. So far it shoots pretty good as far as 200yrd. I never hunted with it but would like to take it coyote hunting but i dont know if that acceptable.

I have a M44 and Vz24, IMHO the only reason why I have a M44 is to impress the ladies with a huge fireballs and shock waves from the muzzle blast. BTW the Tula ammo that Big 5 sells is excellent for this.

Given the same quality of the rifles, I'd pick the K98.

If the question was "keep my mosin nagant M38/91/59 or K98? It would be close. The M38 and 91/59 are nice little carbines without a bayonet, but I would choose the K98 over a M44.

Just to clarify some misinformation in your sale thread...

...the yugo sks is apparently not c&r for another 7 years. sorry guys...
The Yugo M59/66 is C&R right now. It is on the C&R list by name. But to be eligible for "dealerless" transfer within California a firearm must be C&R and a long gun and at least 50 years old.

Also, the actual firearm has to be at least 50 years old to be eligible for "dealerless" transfers in California. The fact that the Yugo M59/66 started production in 1966 doesn't mean that your rifle was manufactured in 1966. I believe the M59/66 was in production all the way up until 1989. So your rifle might not be eligible for "dealerless" transfer in California for another 29 years, depending on when it was actually manufactured.

But it is C&R right now. That means if your buyer has a C&R FFL and a COE then he can take the rifle home without a waiting period after you guys complete the PPT at the Dealer. It also means you can ship the rifle directly to a C&R FFL who is outside of California. Or you can sell it to a California C&R FFL while the two of you are outside of California.

                  K98
Next to me in the blackness lay my oiled blue steel beauty. The greatest Christmas gift I had ever received, or would ever receive. Gradually, I drifted off to sleep, pringing ducks on the wing and getting off spectacular hip shots.

That is a very nice RC K98. Its is going to be much harder to replace it down the road than replacing the M44.

I'd keep the K98 ... at the same time if you are selling to raise funds ... you can sell the k98 for more than the m44

A good 98k is going to be a lot more money than a good M44. Sell the M44 and replace it later on when you can.

Those were all my thoughts before this thread, I just wanted to see if I had the same mind set as all of you. thank you for the compliments on the k98, I got lucky and bout it at gunslingers auctions for only $220 and almost all the numbers match expect for the magazine plate.

its all german numbers. all clean and the history of it is it was made in 1938 peace time in one of the german plants so the quality of the firearm is best quality, it was then remarked with the nazi symbols in 1942 after rearming all the firearms to be of the nazi state, and then it was captured by the russians, pinged but no forced match or mixed match penciled in numbers and the stock wasnt even refinished. I think it was kept as a souvenir and imported back to the states. I bought it at a gun auction and nobody even bidded on it, they all laughed at me cuz it was a WWII RC rifle, but the auctioner knew what he was selling cuz he pleaded with the crowd to buy it, but I lucked out and he told me to hold on to it becuase it was going to be worth a lot more in the near future.

I'm honestly shocked that you even had to ask. The Mauser completely outclasses the Mosin in every aspect other than length. And MAYBE sights.
