    m1 carbine bolt

    I was always curious as to why my m1 cabine bolt seems so, "crude" compared to other m1 carbine bolts. It's a flat bolt with verticle lines running parrallel to the stock. there are about 8 of them. I'm thinking that they had to make some cuts for the war effort?

    If anyone knows anything please let me know. thanks

      the endmill was probably at the end of it's life when your bolt was born.

          Heavy tool marks in non-critical areas are fairly common on 1942-43 Carbine and even Garand parts. The Nazi and the Empire had overrun half of the world and weapons production numbers trumped pretty.
          I have seen Carbine barrels that looked like all-thread and carbine bolts that looked like a kid's shop project.

              Is the bolt marked "DI" on the end of the larger lug?

                          AI and DI were codes for bolts made by Dayton Racquet for Inland. Dayton Racquet bolts often had prominent machining marks on top.
