    1903a3 questions.

Currently shooting a remington 700 SPS v for a long range rig. I'm getting the bug for a 03a3 but is there match barrels for them? I was thinking of making one for a long range rig, Not really military correct but in the military stock bedded and with a nice scope and the ability to shoot iron sights when I wanted to. How much can they be had for? I would also be competing in long range tactical matches. I'm thinking the old war horse could hold it's own against modern LR rigs and I love 30-06 .

I have one with a 2 groove barrel... I have a group I shot with it at 100 yds using a cheap simmons scope and federal 165 grain soft points... 5 shots in one hole you could cover with a nickel...every springfield I own with a 2 groove has been very fine...
we have 3 in the safe right now... one military config and two sporters... bro has a sporter that is very very accurate also...

Ooops my mistake 1903a4 is the configuration I really like. Thing I'm wondering about is it's not a heavy barrel so I don't know how it will do for those days out at the 800 yard line shooting plates all day.

From my understanding the 1903a4's are like unobtanium unless you are rich. What are the differences and could one build a 1903 to be like a a4. Like I said I'm not going for military correct just a long range shooter. I would like to have the options of iron sights as well though.

That seems like to good of a deal. Wonder how their accuracy is... can you put the 03a3 iron sights on those?

My friend sold his 1903 for $6,000 not long ago. It was a collectable item. There are some 1903's made for match. I think they have a star tamp at the end of the barrel.

Smith Corona barrel made by High Standard my gs used them for 1903A3 conversions to hunting rifles.I was at a gun show and asked a collector what new smith corona barrels were worth he said several hundred dollars,he wanted to know where they were but I kept that to myself.

Try locating a Smith Corona barrel made by High Standard they are very good and accurate.

At that price it must have been a 1903A4 sniper rifle they command high prices.

It would be awesome to own an original M1903a4 but I doubt I ever will. The reproductions seem like a good deal.
