    Enfield Carbine Magazine source?

Howdy....I will be taking possession of my dad's Enfield #5 jungle carbine. It has only one magazine, and I would like to pick up a few more.

    Anyone know of a source?

Also, the stock includes the metal butt-plate, which I would like to replace with something else. Any ideas?

    thanks in advance!

Probably Numrich Arms or Gunclip Depot - the aftermarket Enfield mags I've tried were a PITA to fit and didn't work very well, Numrich probably has originals. Still may need to be fitted but should feed OK.

The Enfield magazine really isn't designed to be used as a detachable mag. It's designed to be reloaded via stripper clips. Detaching the mag is primarily intended for maintenance.

Besides, the Enfield mag doesn't play well outside the rifle. When loaded outside the receiver, it doesn't hold the rounds very securely, tends to spit them out when you least expect. Plus, it doesn't insert easily into the receiver the way a semi-auto mag will in a more modern arm. It's a bit fiddly to get it seated correctly.

Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

+2, and Numrich has Enfield chargers (stripper clips) $1.45 a piece. I wouldn't touch a repro mag with a 10 foot pole. That and they don't look right.

              Enfield No5

              GillaFunk,
It is correct to load an Enfield No5 rifle magazine with a stripper clip. It is also correct that a No4 magazine will fit a No5.

The No5 rifle originally came with a buttstock that has a hard rubber recoil pad. If yours has a metal buttplate, it might be a buttstock from a No4 rifle. The correct buttstock can be found, but it might take a little looking around. Additionally, you will want to check out the rubber pad on the buttstock. The can be very dry and cracked with age. Good luck with the hunt.

I bought a couple aftermarket mags and have no issue using them. I have a scoped No4 so stripper clips are out of the question.

if it has a scope you'll need anothe rmag - but the correct (and faster actually) way to load a Lee Enfield is with Stripper clips of 5 rounds each. Not by changing magazines.

GillaFunk, you'll find that the Lee Enfield has a very fast bolt action

Stripper clips are much faster, and easier on the fingers. I have a aftermarket scope so no top loading for me.

Clips are the way to go. I got 70 of them on ebay with bandoliers for $30. Changing mags is a PITA and they aren't useful for use as the primary means of reloading.

save yourself some time on reloads, don't extract the last clip from the guide, just force the bolt forward and the bolt will eject the clip for you.

^ The magazines are wonky, your best bet are the stripper clips. That is unless you have a scope like one of the members above.

The reason I ask is I wanted get a mount and throw a scope on.

Anyone know of any good scope mounts for the carbine?

Are you set on a rear-mounted optic, or are you open to a forward-mounted optic? The reason I ask is that if the latter is the case, you could get an XS mount which attaches to the barrel with acraglass, and have a forward-mounted scope like Leupold's or something like that. It certainly does not detract from the gun and it allows you to continue using clips rather than have to do mag changes.
