    Help Identify My M1 Carbine

I have an M1 carbine and I am having trouble figuring out who makes it because the rear sight hangs almost entirely over the name of the manufacturer on the rear of the receiver. It looks like it starts with an O and ends with MC serial number is 19929xx. Rear sight has PI stamped on the right side. Barrel band says KI front sight says RIA on left side. On top of the breech it says US CARBINE CAL .30 M1. Rifle has no magazine or bayonet lug. No sling or anything else. No import marks

Just found an M on the mag eject button. Looks to be a bomb stamp on the slide

there's no builder that fits that description. however Quality H.M.C. did manufacture receivers. could your O be a Q? Your rear sight marked PI is made by Saginaw Gear, a divison of GM. It's also type II milled instead of stamped. No bayonet lug and type II rear sight, it's possible yours escaped the arsenal rebuilds after the war. Ask the guys in C&R forum. All info from Craig Riesch's book "M1 Carbine War Time Production"
and yes RIA is Rock Island.

S/N 19929XX falls within the range for Standard Products, I believe.

Standard products had a number and letter code on the side of the receiver. break down your gun to check for more info. unscrew the barrel band and pull the handgaurd off. easy!

Shouldn't there be a manufacturer name on the barrel just behind the front sight base? I realize barrels can be changed, but that's usually a good method. That's where my Inland is marked, among other places.

I think the "M" on the mag release denotes a style change not a manufacturer specific mark.

I presume the safety is a turn type and not push button?

"H" {in a shield} It was rebuilt at the Rock Island Armory and has a barrelband w/ a bayonet lug. There is also a "P" on the bottom of the handgrip.

If it is a Quality Hardware, the spring for the slide will be in a separate tube, that will look something like a metal straw, under the receiver. They call this a spring tube. Most other carbines have the spring fitting into a hole drilled into the receiver.
The serial number puts it in the Quality Hardware range

Thanks again for so much help. From the name (that I can make out under the rear sight it looks like like a QU.

It's confirmed the manufacturer on the rear starts with QUA and ends with MC
