Are M1 Garands/M1 Carbines on the hit list

Gentlemen,
..if she gets into the White House in '08? We all joke about CMP getting them out the door before '08. I wonder...The Dem's are already working on a permanent assault weapons ban. Some parts of the new bill state that any firearm that takes a MAGAZINE or CLIP device would be Banned. They state that there might be a grandfather part of the bill. Here in PA their bill states that if you own one of these types of firearms, they must be put on a list and you will pay a fee for each one you own every year. Don't think it wouldn't come to this. Look what happened in England and Australia. Also, they just took them from the people in New Orleans. They just might have the power to do it. All your firearms taken without any compensation. What about many of you guys who, like me, collect them? What do you think might happen?

Just about anything worth shooting is on the list. I heard rumors about a mag limit of 6 rounds, but I have not verified that.

Bad legislation proposed by evil people. They seek to complete their mission, which is to make subjects of us all. I'm not kidding.

For national psyche I do think Garand (and to a lesser extend, M1 carbine) is different from other auto-loaders. It and its bearer (WWII and Korean-war GI's and Marines) examplified the crowning achievement of American do-goodness. Taking away Garand and carbine is to deny a part of this glorious past. I think popular culture also do recognize that as in "Saving Private Ryan" and other WWII-related movies- the good guys & winners always carried M1s'. Unlike black rifles, fair or not, M1s' have nothing dubious about its place in history- nothing less than full victory.

tteng, if the Second Amendment to the Constitution doesn't register with these people, do you think any sense of history does?
Don't help them divide and conquer rifles based on their use or service — Garands "glorious," black rifles "dubious."
They hate all guns, not just the "dubious" ones.

Not quite. They want to ban ANYTHING that threatens their ability to take control. Firearms, religion, speech, litterature, etc. It's all on the hit list, they are just on firearms right now.

Our fore fathers established a seperation from Church and State so that Church would be the guiding moral force, yet now it's nearly a crime to be religious (if not, your segregated as being an overly zealous nut - Uh, my country was cut out of the land and taken back from tyranny by 'over zealous religious nuts' and I am proud to be one of them, thank you very much.). Of course you can learn how to be Muslim or Jewish, you can celbrate Jesus' birth and resurection, but God forbid you pray to him. Church used to be number one in this country, now it's number two. Guess who is number one, and trying to make sure nothing takes it away after they stole it?

ALL firearms are on the list. They shoot too fast. They hold too much ammunition. They are too quiet. Too large. Too small. Can shoot too far. Can shoot at night. Can't be detected by metal detectors. Are black. It's just chaving the corners off a multi-sided star; once they are done, the remaining piece will be too small to defend. After all, guns don't have a sporting purpose anymore since you can buy any meat you might want in a super market and there is no reason to maliciously and cruely hurt animals - they have feelings just like us.

They censor our music, our movies, our books and everything else used to convey a thought. It won't be long until they try to have the classics rewritten, and then the religious scripts (and not just Chrisitians, but I am sure the Bible will be first). They are already trying to change the Pledge of Allegance.

Make no mistake, THEY are after ANYTHING that can take their power and control away, and that includes your ability to vote. It's simply a list, and they are working down it to ensure their survival at your expense...and the sad thing is a good unmber of them probably don't even realize it yet.

tteng, no offense but that is some of the worst logic I have ever heard. To them wars are inheriantly evil and there is nothing glorious about it. Besides, they would neve list the M1 carbine? Ok...oops they are trying. What about the Thompson? Yup, trying that too. True BARs have been gone for years. But no, not the M1 Garand, that is too 'American'. Guess what, if the Mini-14 is up there, that means the M14/A is just a glance away from being up there too, especially considering it is a larger caliber and thus more evil. If that goes up, the semi-auto BAR is bound to go up as well. Then you just have the M1 all alone and then the semi-auto ban comes through to take that one out.

I just woke up from a short nap after being dead tired all day, and I am raised to a fervor just by the thought of all this. If the subject of your rights, and the topic of them being taken away, does nothing to you other than try to understand and reason with their logic, then you my friend are just as much the enemy as they are. This isn't just about firearms, it just so happens to be on the subject of firearms. Why is that? Because once the firearms are gone, it's not long before something comes up, like freedom of speech, and they have the guns and you don't, so who wins?

Thinking is the death of freedom. If you have to think about something, chances are it is counter-productive to your rights and that's because at one point every single person in our country would rather die than lose their freesom. Then, somewhere along the way, some thought and made someone else think that maybe this small freedom was too much of a burden for us and we lost a bit of it. There should be a clear cut line in your head between freedom and tyranny, if it doesn't give you freedom than it is tyranny - and 'safety' is a form of tyranny. If you have to questions something as being helpful to you, than it's tyranny in disguise.

Those who would give up essential Liberty to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. Jefferson knew what he was talking about, and it still applies today.

I suspect the Democrats are too ambitious to even get full support from their own party much less Republicans. There are alot of Democrats from the south and other rural areas that would lose public support for backing that ban.

Even if it does go through, there is always maching equipment to make just about anything you can imagine.
