    M48 Mauser

    Hello all,

I've been eyeing the M48s for a while now and now that I have my C&R, I am looking for good speciments with good prices. Where should I look to find good examples of this rifle? Thanks.

There were quite a few distributors selling the Yugo M48s last year, but now only Century Int. seems to have them (w/ dark bores). Try Gunbrokers.com or other trader forums. You should be able to get a nice one shiped for less than $150.

Or you can go for the other 8mm Yugo mauser - the 24/47. IMHO they are slightly more refined, normally have nice new refurbed barrels and are still readily available with bayonet for less (comes with a few pounds of cosmolene...).

If you're at SF bay area, Irvington Arms of Fremont has several on its rack ( last I checked about 2 wks ago). It's cosmolined, but the rifling are strong.

Samco has excellent condition 24/47s with accessories for about $180; the 24/47 is the same as a 48 except for the stock (like a M24) and the bolt (straight instead of semi-bent on the 48)

If I understand correctly, even if I have a C&R license and no Certificate of Eligibility, I will still have to wait 10 days after I purchase a C&R firearm from Big 5?

Yes, because it involves using their FFL.

both the 48a and 24/47 are nice mausers. i like the bent bolt and cupped stock of my 48a better though.

very nice examples are available, just keep an eye out. also keep checking gunboards; more likely better rifle and better price than gunbroker.

Wow, I hope I see an M48 at Big 5. I really like the buttplate more than the 24/47. Will they ever have 98Ks again?
